St Albans is renowned for its two charter markets, Wednesdays and Saturdays, which have been running for over 1,100 years. I began drawing the Wednesday Market in February 2022, taking a year to capture every stall and van, from The Cheesewheeler Van on St Catherine Street to The PapaPaella Van near the Great Gable House.

Hearing the individual stories of each stallholder has been incredible. Many continue family traditions, having worked alongside their grandparents when they were young.

In March 2023, I began painting plein-air, bringing to life each stall and van I had previously drawn.
